She’s A One-Eyed Pig-Oink, Oink!

Humor is my crutch. I turn to it when I am happy, mad, sad, silly, and nervous, especially nervous. I also use it to snap my kids out of a funk.  If they are mad or upset, I start making up a song and they can’t help but laugh at and get in a better mood. Oh, they try to stay mad, but then I point out that I can see they want to smile and they start laughing and join in with me.

One particular song is about my middle child’s piggy bank.

As you can see, one of the painted on eyes has come off. Oh, she was devastated. It was as if I had told her we were planning on eating her beloved pig for supper.  As you know, for a 5 year old, this IS a tragedy.

So, I made up a song titled: “She’s A One Eyed Pig”. I threw a few oinks in the chorus and we had a one hit wonder. One to be added to my Top 10, as she often will request this song since its original debut.

Now, mind you, these songs don’t always make sense-they do rhyme though (I mean, what kind of funny song does not rhyme?). The verses tend to change as I don’t remember what I actually sang the first time around (remember, they don’t always make sense). It was whatever happened to be at the top of my head, or what rhymed, or what I happened to see in the immediate environment while trying to come up with the crazy song.

One thing with kids is, the simpler the song the better. Bonus, they don’t care if it makes sense or not. In fact, sometimes the less sense it makes the funnier it is! Oh, and if you can work in the words: butt, fart, or other “taboo” words, they think it’s great and laugh harder.

The only problem with these songs, like this one, sometimes it becomes an earworm and plays over and over in my head all day.

So, if you need me, I will be over there folding laundry singing about a one-eyed pig.

….She’s a one-eyed pig, she’s a one-eyed pig oink oink, oink oink., She’s a one-eyed pig, she’s a one-eyed pig oink oink, oink oink….
